Finding Furever Homes

Our Featured Charity from September 2015 until June2016 was the wonderful 'Finding Furever Homes', which received our 25% profits donation.

Finding Furever Homes (FFH) aims to support smaller dog rescues which are located throughout  the UK. Many of these small rescue centres go unnoticed and receive very little support or funding, whether that is hands on volunteering, dog walking, home checks, transportation or most importantly, helping them to re-home dogs in need.  FFH has three main aims:

1. To find loving forever homes for rescue dogs in need.
2. To organise fundraising to support rescue costs.
3. To raise awareness of the growing problem of unwanted dogs in the UK.

Although FFH is a relatively new charity, only established in 2013, it has already helped rehome 385 dogs which might otherwise have been destroyed. Sponsoring kennels to house at-risk dogs incurs a regular monthly financial commitment so the charity depends on constant donations and fundraising. Importantly, the charity also relies on foster homes who literally act as a lifeline - looking after dogs who need that little extra bit of TLC before they can be rehomed.

It is an extremely sad fact that in 2014-2015, 12 dogs in UK pounds were put to sleep each day simply because nobody was there to save them. There was no one to offer a safe space, a loving home or even a second chance. Heartbreakingly, this amounted to more than 5142  dogs killed last year1 through no fault of their own, but simply because UK Rescues were full to capacity. Dogs who are unfortunate enough to find themselves in the pound have only 7 days for their owners to claim them and sadly, after those 7 days are up they can be destroyed. The 8th day is critical for pound dogs and this is where rescue centres can step in to help.

By supporting these small rescue centres, FFH can help to re-home these dogs as well as offering financial support where it is needed most. Using their resources, knowledge, passion and social media, the FFH dedicated team can create awareness and promote these at-risk dogs to a wider audience, thus giving them the best chance of finding a forever loving home.

Finding Furever Homes directly supports the smaller, privately run shelters where dedicated individuals take a huge amount of time and effort to rescue these dogs from the pound and prevent them being put to sleep (PTS). These small rescue centres provide a safe place in kennels or in vetted foster homes for both ‘poundies’ and dogs who have been signed over by their owners. FFH aims to raise funds to pay for transport, vet treatment, emergency boarding, food, worming, flea treatment, surgery as well as coats, blankets and toys for the dogs in rescue. Two lurcher puppies from a litter of ten, born in rescue
